Wolchon Jomok
  • His family origin is Hoengseong, Ja is Sagyung and Ho is Wolchon. He was born in Wolchonri, Yeanhyun and "Wolchon" is named after this place. As His homeland was close to OnGye, native village of Toegye, he became a pupil of him naturally. He first visited Toegye at 15, and their relationship between mentor and pupil continued for 30 years. The academic development of Wolchon was naturally according to the maturity of his mentor Toegye.
  • He passed Saengwonsi at 29, however he didn't aspire to Daekwa, and instead pursue a Confucian classics and Sung Confucianism. He went up to Hanyang and studied at Syngkyunkwan at 32. After that, he quit preparing the state examination and live under Mt. Buyong only to try to self-discipline.
  • The moment his ability was appeared in the Central political world is when he was appointed along with Yi-jiham, Jung-inhong, Choi-yungkyung and Kim-cheonil by Samgong and Yijo in the sixth year of Seonjo period. He was first recognized of five members, and appointed as Chamsang.
  • After that, he promoted more than 40 times, however he rarely take the governmental position. Though his final governmental position was Junior grade of second rank at 81, the period he took the position was when he worked as Bonghwa Hyungam for about 2 years at 53 years old in 1566 and when he worked as Hapcheon Gunsu for about 2 years at 65 years old in 1573. When he was in those positions, he restored Hyangyo and Confucianism.
  • When Imjinoeran occurred, he raised the civil army, and along with his two sons, younger brother and Gwakjaewoo fought against the invaders.
  • After Toegye passed away, he established Dosanseowon admiring his mentor and did progressive academic activity based on the place to succeed to and enlarge the academic tradition of Sir. Toegye.
  • Though he couldn't lecture over the age of 80, he took care of Dosanseowon consistently, and at least worshiped his mentor early in January every year in sincerity. His academic life was started with his mentor, and so he respect him sincerely and consistently until his death.
  • He finally followed his mentor and passed away in 1615 (Gwanghaegun 5), and he was enshrined in Dosanseowon Sangdeoksa.
